Tuscan Moon – Kalona, Iowa

June 8, 2014 by Meemaw Leave a Comment

When Hubby’s cousin Mary and her husband Jan came from The Netherlands for a visit, it was time to meet them for lunch. (More about our dining companions in another post since Mary just authored her own cookbook in Holland (written in Dutch, of course)…and Bob and Sheryl’s son hosts and teaches American BBQ cooking lessons in Japan.  (I was in my element since this was obviously a “foodie” group!)  So since Jan and Mary were staying in Kalona with another cousin Sheryl and her husband Bob, we met the foursome at a wonderful spot in Kalona…the Tuscan Moon.

Jan and Mary…such good folks!

The Tuscan Moon was originally The Kalona Hotel, and this staircase led up to the guest rooms on the second floor.  I believe they have created some private dining areas upstairs.

We were there for a simple lunch, and the food did not disappoint.  (The dinner menu is a more upscale Italian Bistro theme…but lunch includes anything from salads and homemade soup and sandwiches to simple pasta entrees.)

It was fun to catch up with four great people.  And the food at Tuscan Moon did not disappoint.

And where else in Iowa can you enjoy a good glass of wine and a delicious meal while watching an Amish horse and buggy go “clip-clopping” by?  No other place I know!
