The Summit Restaurant – Iowa City, Iowa

May 9, 2015 by Meemaw 1 Comment

If you haven’t been to the Summit Restaurant lately…GO.

Go NOW.

The Summit is located in a prime spot in downtown Iowa City, directly across from the University of Iowa Campus known as the Pentacrest.  It’s a beautiful location with outside dining as well as a large indoor seating area.  And now you can go to The Summit for the food and drinks…and not just to enjoy the view. There have been major changes made to the management, the menu and the quality of the food since our last visit.

We went there with friends who had recently enjoyed a meal there…and we were NOT disappointed.  (But please keep in mind we arrived at 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday evening…and we left at 8 p.m.  I can’t tell you what the place is like at Midnight or in the early morning hours.  Just sayin’…Full Disclosure…)

We ordered a half order (I loved that option!) of their Nachos as an appetizer.  And they were absolutely DELICIOUS!

With a choice of chicken or pork, we selected the chicken version.  And the HALF order for $5 was HUGE!  The chips were layered with pico de gallo, queso blanco, beans, and a cilantro, avocado, and chipotle crema.  An unique combination…and one I will make a special trip back to enjoy again…and again!

And since it was Happy Hour, all the drinks (except martini’s) were half price!  Not a bad deal.  The beers were ice cold…and the house wines (both red and white) were smooth and very drinkable.  Our group enjoyed them all…and our server was pleasant and professional.

And for dinner?  Our friend Marge recommended the Summit Burger, so Hubby and I split one.  It was one of the best burgers (and buns) I can remember!  And we LOVED the option of fresh veggies offered as a side dish to the burger.  (Our friend Don shared his side of fries with us, too, since his side of fries was too large for one serving…and the fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned.)

After our delicious dinner in a relaxed and friendly environment, I stopped by the kitchen to compliment the chefs.  Turns out I knew Chef Matt…and after hearing about the plans for their summer lunch menu and the continued upgrades planned at the restaurant, I am even more excited for the future of The Summit.

So stop by and enjoy a great meal…and enjoy the view.  I bet you won’t be disappointed by either one.
