Get Rest; A Field That Has Rested Gives A Bountiful Crop – Ovid

February 12, 2019 by Meemaw 2 Comments

Ahhh…REST. It was time for me, and the Roman poet, Ovid, said it best.

“Get Rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.”

As many of you know, I spent the months of November and December in a whirlwind of activity. I worked with a wonderful computer guru to add another layer of internet protection to my blog and website. Then I cleaned and packed and winterized our Iowa home as we spent extra time with our Iowa family. Then off we went to Indiana to spend Christmas with family there. From Indy we headed South to spend our snowbird winter right here in Fort Lauderdale. And that’s when I decided I needed a rest. A very long rest indeed.

It’s hard to believe six weeks have already passed. It’s been wonderful for us, here in the tropics. But I know those six weeks have been a real challenge to our family members up North. What a winter it’s been…and continues to be!

The longer I went without publishing a blog post, the more clear it became to me that I truly needed a rest. I needed that break. And I’m not sorry. It’s been a wonderful way to recharge my batteries.

And speaking of charged up…last week was my annual Valentine cookie baking marathon. I look forward to it every year. And our grandkids do too!

Here are some photos from last week’s event.

I decorate each cookie, and I wrap most of them individually, before boxing them up for shipment.

It’s nearly a week long project from start to finish. Mixing, baking, icing day one, then day two then wrapping and shipping. Whew! It truly is a labor of love for me.

I even hide some teeny tiny snowmen in each box we pack to ship to our precious grands, and I added that paper clip so you can see just how small those really cookies are! The snowmen are simply mixed in with the packing material. That means the kids have to dig through the box until each grand finds one!

It’s sort of a “Where’s Waldo?” type of puzzle for them to solve.

This project takes almost a week to pull off from start to finish. (Click HERE to see details of my 2017 week!)

Peepaw headed to the UPS Store last week with those precious boxes filled with sweetness and love.

It’s true, Dear Readers. I needed a rest, and I truly hope that rest will lead to a bumper crop of worthwhile blog posts in the weeks and months ahead.

Happy Valentines Day!

You are a wise woman to realize you needed a rest and to do something about it. Amen❤️
