Citta’ Deli Tiramisu- A Taste of Italy In McCook Nebraska

August 21, 2018 by Meemaw Leave a Comment

When we pulled into McCook Nebraska I had no idea I would end up in Italy for dessert. But that’s exactly what happened when we strolled by Citta’ Deli. And I had no clue that I was about to sample the best tiramisu I had ever tasted.

You see, small town America is filled with culinary surprises most big city folks never expect to find in “fly over” country. But that’s their loss.

Heartland towns boast foods from MANY cultures. And even though we were originally only looking for a local watering hole for a nightcap I just had to check out this Italian spot.

We walked in and sat at the bar. That’s our favorite spot in ANY town since it’s where you can always find a “local” to chat with. And THAT, My Friends, is how you find the REAL America.

We were quickly greeted by a smiling bartender named Charlz who was happy to share details of the beautiful restaurant.

Business was so good for the Italian Deli and full service restaurant they had recently moved from a smaller place in town to this newly renovated spot.

And we soon struck up a conversation with more of the employees.

Meet the hostess Martika , the manager Hanna,  and bartender Charlz. Those three employees give new meaning to “Nebraska Nice”.

I mentioned the fact that I would be sharing the restaurant details on my website, and it wasn’t long before Hanna and Charlz returned to tell me they had spoken to the owner of the restaurant. He wanted to gift us the dessert of our choice.

(Full Disclosure: Thanks to Citta’ Deli for gifting me this dessert, but as always, the opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.)

The dessert menu looked fabulous, but when I saw Tiramisu my search was over. And what an amazing choice it was.

One dessert. Two spoons. The recipe for happiness on a plate.

That dessert was topped with a cloud of fluffy Italian cream laced with mascarpone. It was light as a feather, and the entire dessert simply melted in my mouth.

It was truly a highlight of our overnight stay in McCook. And as I said on my Instagram post it should be illegal to visit McCook Nebraska without a taste of that Italian masterpiece.

We finished our treat and we said goodbye to our new friends at Citta” Deli before we finished our evening stroll. And we left McCook the next morning with fond memories of our “night on the town” on our road trip heading West.

Who knew Italy could be found in Nebraska…
