Back To My Childhood Farm – GrandCamp 2018

July 10, 2018 by Meemaw 4 Comments

Some GrandCamp events are important enough to repeat year after year. Like heading back to the farm where I spent my childhood.

I’ve shared stories about that special place before…like THIS POST . But this year we only stopped long enough to say hello and check out the pond and the “wildlife” that still inhabit the place.

My brother still lives on the “home place”, so after hugs for him (my sis-in-law wasn’t home that day) we headed down through the field to check out the pond.

There is something so special about watching generations sharing special moments together. And I am always looking for moments like these to photograph and to treasure.

Going back to the farm has a way of bringing peace and joy to my heart.

I always think back to my idyllic childhood there.

To those days spent with my pups and kittens and my horses…and my big brother!

And did I mention COUSINS?? Looking back on those fun filled days fills my heart with joy!

Now my big brother is happy to share the farm with another generation.

Our grands look forward to hearing about “Back in the Day” stories from ALL of us!

The field surrounding the pond is filled with beautiful plants and trees…and I’m always sure to stop and smell the flowers.

And on this trip I taught the girls how to pull the pink clover flowers from their base and to TASTE the sweetness prized by honey bees!

It was a gorgeous day in so many ways.

And memories are everywhere…including this old pump. Nothing comes close to the taste of a cup of pure, icy cold water pumped by hand!

Before we left we took time to pet Savannah…

And of course she deserved an apple or two as a treat.

Yes, a trip to the farm takes me back to a simpler time filled with memories galore. But when we make that trip with grandkids it means MY memories will live on long after I’m gone.

And that is priceless, for sure.

I also have many fond memories of the farm. Whenever I visit Iowa I feel a real need to visit there. It is the house where I was born as well as my mother, my Aunt Lila, my brother Stanley, and my sister Maude were born! I am so grateful the farm is still in the family.

Thanks for your comment Mary Jane! The farm is a special place for sure…and my brother and sis in law continue to love and improve it as the years go by. It is a treasure we ALL treasure!
