A Lalaloopsy Baking Oven ORDEAL!

January 3, 2017 by Meemaw 2 Comments

Before we close the books on our 2016  holiday season and move on to our Outback Bowl road trip…Please allow me to re-live a baking adventure from our Christmas day 2015. I still have to laugh when I remember these oven baking results with grandgirl “Little Sis”. It just goes to show…not every Christmas gift is all it’s cracked up to be!

(I hope your 2016 holiday season was filled with family, food, and FUN!)

Cooking is my passion…but that passion does NOT translate to a Lalaloopsy Baking Oven!

Little Sis got one of these “toys” for Christmas, and she couldn’t wait to bake something.  So on Christmas night after all the company had gone home, I “took one for the team” and we got ready to “bake.”

First…the cake. We turned on the oven to heat…FOR TWENTY MINUTES.

She stirred up the batter…and that only took two minutes. Now…eighteen minutes more to wait. (That is an ETERNITY to a five year old.)

She was assisted by her Middle Sis…

We poured the batter into the baking pan…

The oven was FINALLY hot enough. (And so was Meemaw!)

So we shoved the pan into the slot…

And it didn’t fit!  We shoved and shoved…and finally Little Sis realized we were using the wrong end of the “stick”! (Out of the mouths of babes…)

When the timer said the cake was done…we had to TIP THE OVEN OVER to get the pan back out!

After the baking time was up…the batter was still in nearly liquid form!  That’s when we realized that one side of the oven had stayed open…so the oven wasn’t even hot when we started!  So back to another twenty minutes of heat up time.  (Thank God for a glass of wine…for good ‘ol Meemaw!)

We baked again, and it was still sticky on top, but by this time I was moving on…ready or not!

We put the sticky side DOWN on the plate to hide it…and then it was time for FROSTING…

Middle Sis helped to stir up the frosting…while Little Sis “taste-tested” (a.k.a. licked her fingers)!

The sisters began to decorate their masterpiece…

There seemed to be a shortage of frosting. (But maybe the girls ate more than they spread on their cake.)

It certainly looked like fun…

And since Little Sis and Big Sis BOTH have birthdays very soon, the girls added candles and a rousing rendition of HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU…

Those flaming candles may have helped to finish baking the cake!

So…this was the tiny taste of trouble we finally ended up with.

Let’s just say the cake took MORE THAN AN HOUR to make…

And it took LESS THAN ONE MINUTE to eat!

Please…pass me that bottle of wine…

LOL! As the mom of two sons…I must say girls ARE a whole new ballgame. (And one I love dearly too!)
