Spring and Summer 2016 Road Trips

Road Trip | Meemaw Eats

One of the most common travel questions I get is: where are we headed next? So today we are delving into one of my favorite topics: upcoming trips! Warning: this is a long post replete with route details for those who 1: may be just like Peepaw and love to spend time poring over maps and 2. can suggest some great stops for us. We love to hear suggestions from our readers and often plan our stops based on recommendations we’ve heard from you! So if you live in and/or have travelled to an area we’re planning to visit, please leave us a comment below or drop us a quick line (info@meemaweats.com). And, we will be sure to post about all of the great places we visit over the next few months. Stay tuned!

mid-Spring 2016

Time for our annual road trip trek from our Florida house back to the Heartland. Peepaw and I will be heading through Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky before visiting family in Indiana, then trekking home to Iowa in late April/early May. We are taking a slightly different route this time around to avoid the ever-congested Atlanta metro area. We’ve never had good travel luck there; bumper to bumper traffic has been unavoidable each time we’ve visited.

Nick and Sarah will make a quick jaunt to the Richmond, Virginia, area for a wedding over Memorial Day weekend. They’ll make a few stops along the way in Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia.

early Summer 2016

We will be taking some “day trips” as well as overnight adventures in Iowa and throughout the Midwest.  We’re especially interested in overnight stays in old hotels within walking distance to some Mom and Pop eateries and pubs. (We LOVE exploring small towns with that “Back To The Future” vibe.) We want to be a bit spontaneous for these quick trips, and go where the wind takes us, but one thing we definitely want to do? Travel the classic Lincoln Highway.

The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental highway to span 14 states and take travelers from New York to San Francisco, and today the part which travels through Iowa is filled with unique, small town stops.

Nick+Sarah+their three girls are heading on their summer road trip to Coastal South Carolina. They’ll swing through Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina before spending several days in and around the Charleston, South Carolina area. Charleston is a beautiful, historic place and they are really looking forward to exploring the city as well as visiting the beach in Isle of Palms.

Peepaw and I are excited to announce we are heading back to Oregon Wine Country! This was one of our favorite trips of all time! It’s also one of the longest. At a whopping 60 hours round-trip, there are plenty of things to see and do. We will be road tripping’ it through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and Oregon. Last time we visited some great places like here, here, and here. This time? Stay tuned…..
