Our Overnight Stay In Laramie, Wyoming

November 3, 2016 by Meemaw 2 Comments

At an elevation of 7,165 feet, Laramie Wyoming is about ten miles from the Lincoln Monument (the highest point in the United States) on I-80. And judging from the number of deserted buildings and ranches in the area, it takes a special type of individual to thrive, or even to survive there.

We arrived in Laramie on an August afternoon, but the chilly wind felt more like autumn than summer. So it seemed fitting to watch tumbleweeds blow across the sidewalks in this cowboy town.

Our overnight stay was in an old motel with a brand new name…the Downtown Xenion Motel.

Motel owner Matthew welcomed us to Laramie, and he gladly made a recommendation for our dinner that night as he checked us into our room.

Our ground floor room was clean and well maintained, and after a short rest we were ready for a bite to eat. Even though the wind was brisk and chilly, we decided to walk to the eatery so we could stretch our legs a bit. So we set off on foot to Lovejoy’s Bar and Grill in downtown Laramie.

It was fun to “window shop” along the way…

The old storefronts certainly had a Wild West vibe.

And I laughed when I saw this sign. I could almost feel a country song coming on…

If the day had been warmer, this would have been a perfect spot to “stop and sit a spell” as the cowboys would say.

Downtown Laramie is quaint and picturesque…

And what cowboy could pass up a “Give Stinky Boots The Boot” sale???

Yup…the downtown was full of surprises…

Lovejoy’s turned out to be a great spot.

And we even had a REAL COWBOY sighting!

We each settled for a small salad, and we shared Lovejoy’s Nachos…A great choice. (I forgot to ask them to hold the jalapenos, but they were easy to remove since we’re not fond of that much heat.)

After our meal, we strolled back to our motel for an early lights out…but this old Meemaw already had her eye on a promising breakfast spot nearby.

And let me just say…that breakfast was one of my best choices yet!
